Tis the Season for feeling sick as we continue into the thick of Winter. As an educator, I find that my students are coming to school sick and teachers are exposed to a lot of germs and bacteria. During this time of the year, it is so important that you take care of yourself and find ways for self care. There are a lot of ways to keep your immune strong during this season. See my recommendations below:
Recommendations for Prevention:
I highly recommend healthy food choices, exercise, and using essential oils to help boost your immunity.
Healthy Food Choices: Drinking less alcohol, eating more fruits, vegetables, and lean protein will help keep you strong. Maintaining a balanced diet with foods that have antiseptic properties will keep you feeling well while everyone is sick.
Food Favorites:
I love taking Farm House Cultures Gut Shot every morning with natural probiotics and will revitalize you!
Emergen-C: Vitamin Supplement is a great way to get in your Vitamin C intake with 1000 mg daily
Kombucha! Kombucha is a great way to get in your probiotics. My favorite is Marin Kombucha’s Apple Juniper and when I am not on Whole30 I drink it daily.
Lemon: Lemon is an essential for keeping you healthy. I highly recommend drinking lemon water and making lemon tea. You can make your own lemon tea with lemon juice, cayenne, and ginger and hot water or make a lemon tea with honey and hot water.
Garlic: Garlic is very good for you and I like to cook with it daily. If you are not a fan of garlic, I you can also buy it as a supplement and take it internally as an alternative.
Essential Oil Recommendations:
Thieves: Diffuse, use topically, and especially rub on your feet to help with keeping your immune strong.
Lemon: diffuse, use topically, or add to your water
Ginger: diffuse, make a blend with lemon and thieves, and add to your water.
Purification: diffuse to keep your house clean and toxic free!
Recommendations When you Become Sick:
If you are like me and get run down, then self care is essential when you become sick. Rest, lots of lemon, purification diffusing in your home, and lots of thieves will help you through this season of sickness.
Food Favorites:
I don’t know what magic is in chicken noodle soup, but somehow it is necessary for helping you when you are sick. Though the New York Times will tell you its not conclusive, there are some scientists that suggest the medicinal properties of consuming chicken noodle soup when you are sick is actually helpful. Don’t fret if you are on Whole30. You can still consume compliant chicken soup without the noodles and rice and still get the benefits. I recommend you make it yourself if you have the energy.
La Croix Lemon or Lime Flavor: When I am sick, all I want is 7-up, chicken noodle soup, and some saltine crackers. Whole30 doesn’t quite let you enjoy any of those things but La Croix gives you the fix of 7-up without the guilt! If you are looking for something bubbly, I recommend La Croix lemon or Lime flavor. Both will do the trick.
Tea! I am in love with Traditional Medicinal‘s Tea when I am sick. I always consume their Throat Coat tea and their Echinacea Plus Tea when I am really sick. They also have Cold Care and Breathe Easy to help when you are feeling really sick.
Manuka Honey: Although this is expensive, I highly recommend Manuka Honey when you are sick because of the health benefits. There is a lot of information regarding the medicinal benefits of Manuka Honey. I bought my Comvita Manuka Honey at Costco and thought it was pricey, I use Manuka Honey when I am sick specifically to make sure that I am getting the highest quality honey.
Essential Oil Recommendations:
These suggestions could be applied topically with a Carrier Oil or Diffused in a Diffuser:
Digize, Thieves, and Peppermint are all great when you have a stomach bug
R.C. is great for Breathing as well as Breathe Deeply when you are feeling super stuffed up
Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Coconut Oil, and Lavender can be used as an alternative to Vapor Rub
Oregano and Thieves are essentials to be used Daily when you are super sick to fight off the bug
I hope that you found these suggestions to be helpful as you continue to maintain your immune system.
Wishing everyone Good Health and Lots of Wellness!
