About Me

At the counter is where food preparation begins. Fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden meld with olive oil, pasta & grains, meat & poultry, or spices combined in a near alchemical process to create the delicious meals that arrive at the table. It is a place where wine is poured, last minute flair is added to the entrees, and intimate conversations are shared.

Pilar Svendsen is adventurer of elegance, hailing from the grand arena of the Bay Area, California, where she explores her interest in cooking, gardening, and writing. She received her Masters degree in Teaching from Santa Clara University in 2014 and a Bachelors of Arts degree in History from UC Davis in 2012. Pilar currently works as a high school history teacher and is also working on a second Masters degree in American History through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

Pilar hopes to use At the Counter to share her experiences experimenting at the counter, savoring divine dishes, cultivating her garden, learning about essential oils and in general experiencing all that life has to offer.
